On the northern summit of Spinans Hill in County Wicklow, Ireland, a massive univallate enclosure spanning more than 11 hectares in size stands out as one of nine large enclosures surrounding the town of Baltinglass and has been recently dated back to the Early Neolithic period (O'Brien and O'Driscoll 2017). This is the largest Early Neolithic enclosure discovered so far in Ireland. Excavation revealed that the northern side of the enclosure consists of a collapsed stone bank, while on the eastern side, an external ditch and counterscarp bank appear to be present. At least seven robbed-out cairns can be found within the interior, but no obvious sign of habitation is visible. Surrounding this enclosure, as well as the nearby Brusselstown Ring, is a massive earthwork enclosing an area of approximately 131 hectares with a perimeter of over 5 kilometers. The earthwork features an inner bank-external ditch-counterscarp bank arrangement and remains undated to this day. For more information, visit https://aberdeen.academia.edu/JamesODriscoll
