The design incorporates several key features for efficient sample filtering. By rotating samples at varying speeds, unwanted particles are rolled away, facilitating filtration. Additionally, different-sized samples can be layered and moved linearly (as shown in slide 2). To further eliminate residual samples, a fast spinning motion is employed. The transparent components of the design are crafted from Polycarbonate, with Teflon coatings applied to parts that come into contact with samples for optimal performance. Metal parts, meanwhile, are made from aluminium. The motor system utilizes a FaulHaber 0816012SR model with Encoder and Gearhead. Other systems in place include a robotic arm on the lander to collect regolith and pour it into the design, a visual system for monitoring sampling effectiveness, and a temperature control system to maintain chamber temperatures (-140C may affect motor functionality).
