Spiky gear for 3.3 or 3.5mm ball chain
thingiverse
Tiny ball-chain gears, compatible with 3.3mm and 3.5mm diameter chains, can be used on NEMA17's 5mm output shaft. These gears are specifically designed for the X and Y axis of a Mendel, though improvements may be needed for the X axis and deposition bed. They can also be utilized elsewhere. The gears appear \"spiky,\" but due to printing and rendering uncertainties, the spikes may be missing, yet still provide functional gears. To assemble, print two gears and use M5 washers with epoxy on the shaft for proper alignment of teeth, creating a channel for ball-chain guidance. As the gears age, this also prevents balls from grinding through PLA. For Mendel users, larger pulleys are required on X axis corners due to 3.3mm ball chain's inability to navigate tight corners. The Y Motor Bracket may need adjustments to fit NEMA17 motor shafts.
