Spikes (scuplted in VR)
thingiverse
This object is an intricate cluster of rounded protrusions, somewhat reminiscent of a shallow-bottomed sea urchin's defensive mechanism. As I explore the realm of sculpting objects within virtual reality and subsequently transforming them into tangible creations via three-dimensional printing, this exercise served as a straightforward test case. Using Gravity Sketch in conjunction with HTC Vive, I meticulously shaped this object. Following its creation, I exported the file as an OBJ format, then seamlessly imported it into Meshmixer to render it suitable for 3D printing. Within MeshMixer, I solidified the structure before employing a plane cut to flatten the base. To minimize material usage during printing, I hollowed out the object, leaving some residual internal geometry that proved insignificant. To facilitate replication and experimentation by others, I've attached the file. Those interested in crafting their own rounded spikes as decorative desk ornaments or functional items can utilize this design. For my part, I utilized Filamentum PLA to bring it to life, with a vibrant Noble Blue hue as its defining characteristic.
