This relic was unearthed by archaeologists at James Madison's historic estate, Montpelier. It was meticulously captured using a NextEngine Desktop 3D scanner to bring its intricate details to life. The object's digital twin was created to enrich the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities' Encyclopedia Virginia, specifically in regards to the complex history of slavery in Virginia. This groundbreaking scanning project is proudly funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
