Spike Control Knob for Monoprice MP Select Mini 3D Printer
thingiverse
The stock LCD control knob for the MP Select Mini falls short, prompting me to create a superior alternative. This custom control knob serves as a seamless drop-in replacement, boasting an intuitive design that's significantly easier to use and boasts maximum grip. After scouring Thingiverse for suitable alternatives, I discovered some control knobs that failed to deliver in terms of fit or grip quality. To rectify this issue, I conducted a series of test prints featuring various hole sizes and designs to pinpoint the perfect combination that ensured a snug yet not-too-tight fit. While results may vary, my chosen design has proven successful for me. To remove the old knob, I recommend using a sharp knife to gently rock each side until it comes loose. Alternatively, you can employ fishing line or dental floss to pry it off safely. For those interested in customizing this design further, I've included the 123D Design file as a starting point for remixing and modification. Print Settings: Printer: Monoprice MP Select Mini Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.1mm or 0.2mm Infill: 20% Notes: The spike pattern exhibits excellent results at both 0.1mm and 0.2mm resolutions, with slightly sharper spikes and a looser fit at the lower resolution. Ultimately, print to your preference. A few makers have suggested positioning the knob so that the hole is facing upwards. While I achieved satisfactory results without supports, you're free to experiment with different orientations to suit your needs.
