Spider-Man is a fictional superhero starring in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Born out of the minds of writer-editor Stan Lee and writer-artist Steve Ditko, Spider-Man burst onto the scene in Amazing Fantasy #15 (Aug. 1962). Lee and Ditko designed the character as an orphan being raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben, struggling to balance adolescence with the high-stakes world of costumed crime-fighting. Spider-Man's creators equipped him with superhuman strength and agility, a talent for clinging to any surface, wrist-mounted web-shooters that fire sticky webs at will, and a trusty "spider-sense" that warns him of danger, empowering him to take down his enemies with ease.
