Spider Web Lantern

LED Tealight or Votive Candle Holder

Halloween Decoration

This is a 140x70x70mm Halloween LED tealight or votive lantern.

The thin print settings make this lantern glow with light from the flicker of LED candles. Use glow filament for the web layers to add additional color and glow when the candle is off.

Thank you toDrawn_To_Spec for theBlack House Spider model. My first spider was an extruded svg clipart and looked flat. So I searched Thingiverse and found the Black House Spider which really helped bring the spider to life.

This is another make in what is now a set of designs that include the Halloween themed Stacked Pumpkin Lantern Stacked Bat Lantern

and fall themed Fall Leaves Lantern

See misc notes in the print settings about the size difference between this and my other Lanterns.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

FlashForge

Printer:

Adventurer 3

Rafts:

Yes

Supports:

No

Resolution:

.20

Infill:

100%

Filament: Amolen / Flashforge PLA Glow Green / Black

Notes:

The panels were designed 140mm x 70mm each to fit 2 side by side flat, face up on my 150x150x150mm print bed.
Using transparent or glow filament for the layers with web and then pausing to switch filament to black for the spider and the border at 1.6mm (Layer 8 on my Slicer)..
Repeat to get 4 frames. I uploaded the panels in pair and individual to make it easy to mix and match for multiple spiders, just one per lantern or use all web and skip the spider completely.

Note - The Spider Web Lantern is bigger than my previous designs like Stacked Bat and Stacked Pumpkin. To make a set all the same size you can resize the web panels. Set resize option to disable uniform scaling and make each panel x=60mm, y=100mm, z=3mm at that point use the base from one of the previous designs that has the groove 60x100mm size panels.

Post-Printing

Easy Assembly

Print 4 frames and the base which has a raised center to help hold the panels square.
For assembly, to fit the base, each panel attaches left inside and right on end. [see pics found with my other Lanterns](https://cdn.thingiverse.com/assets/c3/34/0e/55/b3/02-StackPumpkinAssembly.jpg)
I assembled the sides put glue strips on a couple spots on the bottom edges then tapped the assembly down onto the base around the platform.

Stick them together with double side tape or glue. I used Glue Dots 22263E Adhesive Glue Line, Clear. These or similar "craft glue dots" are easy to rearrange, hold well and are removable so it can be flattened for after Halloween storage.

How I Designed This

Inspired by my other Lanterns

Although inspired by my other "stacked" lantern this one has no repeating items per panel just a web design put together in Inkscape as an SVG and then extruded in TInkerCad.

A spider seemed appropriate so I designed one and repeated the extrusion for it. It looked flat, just a silhouette, so I started rounding it and cutting sections. Then I realized there are probably 3D spiders already designed. I found a perfect one to give a home in my webBlack House Spider

I opted to just have a single spider per lantern. I feel like they should be territorial that way.

Components made in Tinkercad

Assembled in TickerCad

Category: Decor
