Spider-man Menorah (for Hannukah)
grabcad
I wanted to 3D print a Menorah but wanted it to be cool and superhero themed. I asked myself, what superhero logo would have 8 candles around it in a way that feels natural and bam, came up with this idea, which I love. I created the art in Solidworks based on a number of examples I saw that were themselves based on the Marvel Spider-man design (given what it's for, you have to pronounce it Spih-dermen). It's hard to give exact credit to the artist who inspired the pattern as so many variations are up (under different artist names), but if anyone knows, I'm happy to give it.I did the whole thing in 2D layers so that I could do color changes, which makes the design. I did a thin black base then several layers of bright red with black for the hex pattern and gold for the webbing. I like white for the spider based on a mug I once saw. If I had to do it again I'd do the candle holders in gold instead of red, which ended up a pinker color due to the thin walls. My CAD was made for 0.4" candles (0.41" holes), but you could adjust the candle ID in CAD or on your slicer or use foil to get candles to fit tighter. The images that sparked the design are of course of Peter's chest, so the hex patterns vary in a way that makes the muscles show. I was curious if doing that here would have a good result, but I don't have the time to mess with SW techniques. If anyone figures that out, let me know.
