Spider Assembly for Newtonian Telescope
thingiverse
This device aids in precisely positioning and aligning a 45-degree secondary mirror on Newtonian telescopes; it is adaptable to various mirror sizes. The mirror holder features faceted sides for easy adjustments. Recent updates include M3 nut niches, a conical hole in the main M4 screw for pivoting, and a trimmed top part for printing efficiency. The center screw is an M4 of unspecified length, while collimation screws are M3 screws that must be sized relative to the M4. Adding springs could enhance alignment ease. Three 3mm threaded rods hold the spider in place at the optical tube's center; use 1-meter rods and cut to size. Alternatively, wire may be employed if M3 screws are unavailable, although this might cause vibration. After placing the spider in the scope, fill the cavity with epoxy or glue to maintain alignment at 120-degree intervals and lock nuts in place to prevent rotation.
