I've been experimenting with OpenSCAD designs for 15cm/6" sphere speakers that use a 4" SEAS full range driver, complete with an integrated wall mount feature. The non-tweeter version has received extensive testing, but I still need to address the design and implementation of a tweeter pod. If you plan on creating this speaker, ensure you have access to a printer capable of handling 150x150x150mm print volumes. In my case, I printed the models in the attached images using a 178mm diameter Kossel mini, and adjusted the OpenSCAD files accordingly for a smaller driver configuration. I opted for SEAS H1600-04 FU10RB full range drivers, which could potentially be replaced with slightly smaller alternatives such as Tangband or similar components. Print settings recommended at least two solid walls and three layers on top/bottom, while 330g of PLA yielded an impressive build time of approximately 10 hours per housing using an E3D v6 setup. Considering the potential improvements, I'll employ an E3D volcano with a larger 0.8 nozzle for my next printing session to accelerate the process significantly. I found Simplify3D generates superior support material by adding at least one solid top layer. To seal the unit properly, applying a thin layer of silicone bathroom sealant on the baffle and letting it dry prior to driver installation is a must. I used binding posts, carefully secured them in place with a heated soldering iron to prevent future movement. Polyfil or equivalent fiber materials were used to absorb vibrations between the driver screws for a more polished sound output. With their sleek appearance and remarkable performance, these desktop speakers make great candidates for home cinema sets – paired with a subwoofer and equalizer setup, 5 units can easily provide a decent, immersive audio experience.
