Spherical panoramic head - remixed
thingiverse
This remix takes a panoramic head by BlacklightShaman and gives it a nice upgrade - I especially like the quick release mount, which makes it easier to use with my setup. To make it even more user-friendly, I added some mods that I'll explain below: Horizontal Arm: Added alignment marks around the pivot point at 30-degree intervals Created a cavity in the bolt area to accept a nut for a 1/4" dia. x 20 bolt Made a hole under the bubble level cavity so you can use a thin rod or drill bit to push the bubble level back out if needed. Vertical Arm: Added alignment marks around the pivot point at 90 degrees Transversal Arm: Added alignment marks around the pivot point at 30 degrees Lengthened the quickmount plate bolt channel to allow the plate to slide further back Added a groove past the end of the channel to allow for the quickmount cam bolt protrusion Added a small hole past the M5 nut pocket in the pivot area to make it easier to remove the nut from the pocket. Quickmount Socket: Moved the M5 nut pocket to the center of the socket Quickmount Plate: Thickened the plate and made the bolt cavity deeper so that the head of a 1/4" dia. x 20 bolt doesn't interfere with the socket Changed the heights of the knobs so you only need a few types of bolt lengths Knobs: Enlarged the nut cavities in the components to make it easier to install the nuts. Custom Section Hardware Required and General Notes To assemble this remix, you'll need the following hardware: M5 x 36mm bolts (2x) M5 x 45mm bolt (1x) M5 nuts (6x) M3 x 16mm bolt (1x) M3 nuts (2x) Note: Item 1 is for the horizontal to vertical arm connection, and the quickmount socket to transversal arm connection. Item 2 is for the vertical arm to transversal arm connection. Item 4 is for the quickmount cam to socket connection. You'll also need hardware to mount the head to the tripod and the camera to the plate. I used 1/4" dia. x 20 x 1/2"L bolts and nuts for my setup. Notes: A. The quickmount socket knob will interfere with the vertical arm if you want to take upward-facing shots. In this case, you can eliminate the knob and just use an M5x16mm bolt instead, but you'll lose the ability to adjust the position of the socket on the transversal arm without using tools. B. You can eliminate the horizontal arm knob and just use a bolt instead if you use the same camera all the time, since you won't have to adjust this once you have it set. This is true even if you change lenses since the camera base to lens centerline distance doesn't change. C. For the quickmount cam, make sure the M3 bolt head is on the cam side of the mount so that the bolt protrusion under the socket can pass through the channel in the transversal arm.
