Spherical Ice
thingiverse
A few spherical ice cubes are in progress. Each ice cube measures two inches or twenty-five point four millimeters in diameter. The initial attempt, using an easy thread, was too loose to hold the water, so some dimensions were modified. The first test hasn't been conducted yet. I also created a model with a 2.5-inch thread. The threaded version printed well, but there was stringing on the filet that could be fixed with supports. However, the part itself is watertight and produced a nice spherical ice cube. The only issue with the threaded versions is that they lack lead on the thread, causing the male to not drop into the female nicely. This problem has been addressed in the chamfered file. In the next version, I plan to include a pusher bolt in the center of the bottom piece to prevent the ice from sticking. The threaded versions should print faster than the easy thread since there is less material involved. Note: The safety of 3D printed materials and ice cubes has not been fully tested. Use these ice cubes at your own risk. I created them without any concerns, but I'm providing this information as a disclosure.
