Spherical Carton Lamp With 50cm Diameter. This is made of carton which is 7.5mm thick. Layered carton pass light in really nice way. or this project supplies needed: 2-wave quality carboard, thickness about 7,5mm 1 Lamp base with wires. Glue (normal wood glue is fine) CO2 laser / I think you could cut this with something else also, jigsaw or router This could also be designed just with paper and pencil. And cut with some other way than CO2 -laser. This design is quite easy if the following hold true: The design has to be symmetrical from the side and from the above. I wanted to make a video about the design because actually only things needed are Pencil, Compass (drawing tool), lot of Paper. 1.First draw a symmetrical circle or ellipse from the side view point. Draw it in actual size. In this case this will be with 50cm diameter. 2.Draw all the 7.5mm layers, starting from the top. 3.Draw the inside diameter inside the 1. circle. This will determine the gluing points where the layers are glued together. So basically this is the lamp "thickness" as well. 4.Write numbers to each layer. I truly recommend writing layer numbers especially when cutting, it will help finding the right layer so much. ( In video I only wrote 9 first layers.) 5.I captured this picture from the video. Layer number 17 inside diameter is with the distance between red marks, outside diameter is the distance between the blue marks. Now when this was first drawn in actual size, now the distances are just simply measured. 6.Measure all the layers and write them down. (Now you could draw all the circles with Compass.) 7.Cut all the layers There are different size lamp base sockets. I have the socket with 40mm diameter. So I made 40mm holes to three first layers for that. Before gluing it would be best to put all the layers in order. Normal wood glue can be used. Do not use too much glue, if you do, wipe it away immediately. Later dry glue is impossibe to get away without breaking the carton. Gluing is quite straightforward. I find it easier to glue smaller pieces onto larger pieces, that way I can see and feel with fingers where it is centralized. Gluing is also guite fast because carton will "suck" the glue quite soon. Just take your time and there is no hurry.
