sphere-magnet cast in oogoo
thingiverse
Neodymium sphere magnets are an exciting toy - but beware of a critical vulnerability: nickel plating (designed to prevent corrosion of the NdFeB core) is easily damaged, especially around magnetic poles where spheres collide with other magnets or objects. To cast a (8mm diameter, neodymium) magnet in a 1mm thick protective shell made from oogoo using these three molds in a two-step process, you'll need to: - Mix a small batch of oogoo. - Use part A + B to shape half spheres and let them cure. Then open the mold, retaining the half-sphere in part B, insert the neodymium magnet and proceed. - Mix another small oogoo batch and place it in part C before closing over the other part with the neodymium magnet. - Apply pressure to seal the mold and allow everything to cure completely. Finally, open the mold, trim off excess material and enjoy your handiwork!
