Spectrum-Röntgen-Gamma (Spektr-RG), a joint Russian-German high-energy astrophysics space observatory, was launched on July 13, 2019. The mission's primary instrument is eROSITA, built by the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Germany. This state-of-the-art telescope will conduct a seven-year X-ray survey of galaxy clusters and active galactic nuclei, mapping an estimated 100,000 galaxy clusters in the process. The survey may uncover new clusters of galaxies and reveal the secrets of supermassive black holes. The spacecraft's second instrument, ART-XC, is a cutting-edge Russian high-energy X-ray telescope designed to detect these mysterious cosmic phenomena. Once in orbit around the Sun-Earth L2 Lagrangian point, about 1.5 million kilometers from Earth, the Spektr-RG will embark on three years of observations, focusing on selected galaxy clusters and active galactic nuclei, providing scientists with a wealth of new data to analyze.
