Speedy "Red Swept Wing 2" RC
thingiverse
This is the massive version of the Speedy Red Swept Wing. It boasts a wingspan of 1510 mm and weighs in at 1250 grams. Just like its smaller counterpart, this big wing has sections held together by two internal strings within tubes, secured with luster terminals on the wing tips. The only exceptions are the two red middle segments, consisting of four parts each, which are glued together. This design should allow for easy printing and replacement in case of a crash. Unfortunately, it appears that this method may not be secure enough for such a large plane, as evidenced by its eventual crash in the video provided at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUGuW6KuunY. The camera was lost during the second flight, likely when it began to flutter just before the crash. It had been secured with velcro tape only. I miss the videos more than the camera itself. Update 8.October 2016 Helmut, who also printed the motor sailplane, kindly provided templates to align the middle wing segments of the split section. Print as much of a template as possible and position it diagonally, then shorten only the front part. These are crucial for obtaining precisely the same hole spacing for plug-in mounts. Update Oct 23, 2016 Servo Cables Attention! Before gluing the middle wing sections together, you must cut out the openings for the cables. If the edges are soldered with a soldering iron, the interrupted print structure becomes connected. For the opening on the fuselage, you can use a cover frame (cable cover frame). Update Jan. 18, 2017 Uploaded wing_rear_center_mod2160. At the previous file were lacking three top layers. Aligning the Middle Wing Segments Not only must the wing profile be aligned but also the hole spacing for connections must fit exactly. For both, I uploaded templates: template center at the root, template 160 mm at the inner connection, and template 320 mm at the outer connection. Print as much of the stencils as possible (diagonal). Shorten it only on the front.
