Speedy Red Midi Wing

Speedy Red Midi Wing

For all friends of flying planks, I've designed a special version that falls somewhere between the Speedy Red Mini Wing and the Red Duck. This design features a unique airfoil and comes with a wingspan of 1000 mm and a total weight of 870 grams. Like in the "Mini Wing," carbon rods (now 8mm) run all the way through, providing extraordinary stability. These rods are incredibly stiff and fit together perfectly, eliminating the need for glue. This makes replacing parts a breeze, whether it's due to breakage or color preference. I haven't had a chance to maiden this design yet, but Dave has already gotten it airborne. You can watch his success here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8ECqxQFIFE Now I'm getting ready to maiden it as well: https://youtu.be/b07vxzm0pUk Recommended Print Settings Pay attention! The wings are designed to print using 0.5 mm width, 0.3 mm height, 3 bottom and 3 top layers, but only one perimeter. If you print thinner walls, the upper side's perimeter won't stick well enough to the inner stiffening construction. Conversely, if you apply thicker walls, the perimeters will not come out continuously in one uninterrupted turn. To achieve a smooth surface on the upper side, it's essential to build up layers as if printing in spiral vase mode. If unsatisfied with the results, try experimenting with 0.49 or 0.48 width in your slices settings. The choice of slicing software (Cura, Slic3r, S3D, etc.) may require some trial and error. The second point is: When printing with lesser layer heights, the inner stiffening construction will not connect well to the top and bottom layers, resulting in a gap between them. All wing parts should have a layer height of 0.3 mm, width of 0.5 mm, while the following settings apply: * Wing: 1 perimeter, 3 bottom layers, 3 top layers, hollow * Wing servo: 3 bottom layers, 3 top layers, hollow * Elevon 170: 7 (!) bottom layers, spiral vase mode * Elevon 167: 3 bottom layers, spiral vase mode * Elevon joint: no bottom layer, spiral vase mode * Fuselage parts: layer height =0.2mm, width =0.52 mm + Fuselage front: 3 perimeters, 7 bottom layers, 3 top layers, 80% infill + Fuselage middle: 2 perimeters, 1 bottom layer, 1 top layer, hollow + Fuselage back: 2 perimeters, 3 bottom layers, 3 top layers, 40% infill + Fuselage interface: 2 perimeters, width =0.4mm, no bottom/top layer, hollow * Fin: 5 bottom layers, layer height =0.3mm, width =0.5mm, spiral vase mode * Fin cap: 2 perimeters, 3 bottom layers, 3 top layers, layer height =0.2mm, width =0.4mm, 30% infill Specifications Airfoil: AR2610-S80 Wing span: 1000 mm Wing chord: 200 mm Aerodynamic center: 35 mm (12%) Overall weight: 816 g Wing weight complete: 460 g Fuselage weight complete: 356 g Fin weight: 12 g Wing area: 20.0 dm² Wing loading: 41 g/dm² Longitudinal stability (Thies) STFs: Motor: Propdrive 28-36 1000KV Static thrust: 950 g (3S Lipo) Battery: Turnigy 1200 mAh 3S 40~50C Lipo Motor camber: tilted -4 degrees Side pull: none Propeller: Aeronaut CAM Aeronaut Carbon Classic 10 x 6"
