SpeedDrive Dual Gear 14mm Extruder & 90 Degree Rotation Mod
cults3d
This is a remix of both the SpeedDrive for the Ender 3, and the flexible filamnet extruder modification. It rotates the extruder 90 degrees to eliminate any clearance issues with the original SpeedDrive (now no bed area is lost); and it also adjusts the placement to work with dual gear extruders that have a 14mm offset for the filament hole (you'll know exactly what I mean if you have one of these and then excitedly printed the Elproducts version, only to find that it is way too short unless you go back to stock). READ THIS The SpeedDrive modification is basically complete. It is on its 5th or 6th iteration (I can't remember), and I've dealt with most issues. Right now I'm testing the most recent version to see if the extruder support needs to be raised any further, or if it is OK as-is. I believe it is far enough now, but time will tell. In the previous version I found the spring tension & weight of the extruder caused the part to slowly bend backwards. Eventually, it got bad enough to affect printing. THE FLEXIBLE FILAMENT EXTRUDER MODIFICATION IS A WORK IN PROGRESS. It doesn't still quite perfectly match the alignment of the gears. This is the 6th iteration I've printed, and I still needed to use a file to gently reduce both sides a bit before the gears weren't binding on them. It also expects to have bowden tubing pushed into the extruder gear side (like the ElProducts original); but even capricorn tubing is too small for the current size. This is to keep the connection as tight as possible. It probably only matters for flexibile filament like TPU, but I wouldn't recommend doing the install without it. In the next iteration, I will fix both of these issues. In the meantime, get a file and a drill. It's about 5 minutes of post-print work, but it does the job. For the next print, I'll add a video of the install, so I can demonstrate what may be necessary to get the part aligned. You Only Need If installing this on a printer with the increased Extruder height (like the dual gear mentioned), you only need the COMPLETE.stl file as well as the 14mm.stl file. The other two files have been included in case someone wants to shift the position of the extruder holder, or has another idea in how to modify this setup. INSTRUCTIONS (Follow These Instructions To Install) This is installed the same way as SpeedDrive, so I'm embedding that video here: Print Settings Printed on an i3 Mega, as well as an Ender 3 Pro, with the following settings: - 25% infill; - .18 layer height; - Supports: yes, min 60% overhang (the more/denser the supports on the bottom, the cleaner it looks after post-processing); Sliced in Simplify3D. Enjoy!
