At Easterhegg, I discovered an incredible lock — Master Lock 1500iD. This unique padlock allows you to create a combination of up, left, right, and down movements of any length as your personal access code. The mechanism operates like a mechanical hash function of the movements entered. To demonstrate this innovative technology, Michael Huebler created an animation (MhVisualizer_V2.0_p.swf). Additionally, a simplified demonstration model (The New Master Lock Combination Padlock V2.0) is available as a PDF, explaining the lock's mechanics without the actual locking, reset, or custom combination features. To assemble this model, print four code discs, one base plate, and one pin plate, following the image provided for guidance. As you manipulate the upper octahedron, observe how the code discs turn to reveal the state of the machine. For easy tracking, mark one side of each code wheel with a pen.
