SpeedBenchy - 3D Printer speed benchmark
prusaprinters

Speedboat Challenge is a competition aimed at pushing further the speed limits of 3D printers, more precisely FDM models.

I made this model when I didn't know about Speedboat, but I will still keep it up. This model changes a single thing, that being removing the negative text under the boat, as such a version of the Benchy is almost always used for speed benchy printing demonstrations. As I couldn't find the file, I simply uploaded it here.

This is not original work and is merely a variant of the original 3DBenchy model

Here are the rules:

You must use PLA, PLA+, PETG, ASA, ABS, or ABS+ (not filled, metallic, or silk filaments as these filaments typically hide defects)

The maximum nozzle or line width size is 0.5 mm

The maximum layer height is 0.25 mm (you may combine infill every other layer)

You must use 3 top and bottom layers

You must use 2 walls and 10% infill

The finished print must be dimension ally accurate (within reason) – bonus points if it looks good!

The machine must be powered by stepper motors

You must record the whole print, and the print must finish. There must be a timer or clock shown in the video to verify it’s done in real-time. A phone is fine, or you can show the time before and after the print.

You must post the video to YouTube, tagged with #SpeedBoatRace

You must share the print profile.

Further Reading: All3DP Article

Feel free to post your runs in the comment or as makes too.

Thank you to user “2mD” for providing the rules before I could update this description!

Further Printing:

If you are interested in speed printing, you might also like the “Kickstarter-Autodesk Universal FDM 3D Printer Benchmark Test”, which I personally shorten to “The KSRM test”. I also have a slightly reduced version called “PKSR” that I will publish at a later date.

I use this test to give quantifiable scores to my printing profiles on a specific printer. One is visible within my Bio as “26 points out of 30, printed within 2 hours”. I append a shortened version to my print profile names, 26 points in 2 hours, so 13 points per hour would be written as “2613”

If you are interested, stay tuned to my posts.
