Specular Reflectance Accessory

Specular Reflectance Accessory

This tool is used with a Cary (Agilent) Model 100 spectrometer to enable specular reflectance measurements. This can be produced for a small fraction of what an OEM optional accessory would cost.Normally, the light path would go through a flat part in transmission. To measure reflectance, a small 0.5" x 1.38" mirror is used to bend the incoming beam by 97 degrees. The beam hits the surface under test, and is reflected towards a second mirror that bends the light by -97 degrees to realign the beam with the incoming beam, as if the accessory was not in light path. This device is used under normal laboratory environments and would not be subjected to extreme temperatures or loads. The only additional parts required, besides the spectrometer are the two 0.50" x 1.38" mirrors, the part under test, and some thread forming screws. Finally, rubber bands are used to hold the part under test in place.
