This is a 3D printable design for an apparatus that measures the specific gravity of gems or geological samples. It allows the sample to be weighed while submerged in water, making it easy to calculate its density. With this design, users can weigh their samples both on land and underwater, then apply the formula to find the material's exact density. Specific Gravity = (Weight on Land) / (Weight on Land - Weight Underwater) This apparatus is designed to work with portable microbalances commonly used by gemologists in the field. Traditional commercial versions are often difficult to locate and very expensive, which is why I created this DIY design.
