The spear is a type of pole weapon that is typically made up of a sturdy shaft and a pointed tip. The pointed end can be simply the sharpened edge of the wooden shaft itself, as seen in fire-hardened spears, or it may be crafted from a more durable material attached to the shaft, such as bone, flint, obsidian, iron, steel, or bronze. Historically, most hunting and combat spears have featured metal spearheads with a triangular, lozenge, or leaf-shaped design. Fishing spears, on the other hand, often come equipped with barbed or serrated edges to catch their prey effectively.
