A model from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:166556 inspired me to simulate it in Solidworks and Simlab Composer, both of which worked well. The model consists of six units assembled together and was created using Solidworks 2015. Rendering was done with Simlab Composer 6 Mechanical Edition (SIM included), while frames were edited in Virtualdub and saved as AVI/X264 and BMP. MyMP4BoxGui was used to remux the video to MP4, and GifApp was used to create GIFs which were then edited with IrfanView. The 3D-PDF, ZIM, and SIMLAB files contain animations that can be viewed on IOS and Android devices using the free Simlab Viewer app. The model is available in a variety of formats including Solidworks 2015, Simlab Composer 6, DAE, STEP, IGES, STL, Parasolid, OBJ, 3D-PDF, SketchUp, 3DS, and ZIM. Note: for 3D printing, download the printable from Thingiverse as my model has not been tested.
