Not finding spare parts (yes again) I modeled half balls to close modern "tube" stair railings. The inside diameter of the railings is 37mm, it's a loose fit, voluntarily in my case, but if you need to put the caps on the bottom, add a little to the diameter or put a small piece of tape around it.
