1596 Spanish Blade Oakeshott Collection Catalogue Number: OC 012 This is a late 16th century Spanish rapier with a blade marked "Alonzo de Sahagun Me Fecit" on one side and "En Toledo MXD CVI" on the other. The hilt, likely 40 or 50 years older than the current blade, exhibits high-quality craftsmanship that suggests its owner held a relatively high status. The original wooden grip remains intact, although it would have been bound in wire which is now missing. Traces of gold are visible in recesses throughout the hilt, especially in the pommel.
