Developed by Spain's Navy, inspired by the US Navy's Oliver-Hazard Class frigates, Santa Maria Class Frigates were constructed locally in two phases: phase one with four ships and phase two with two enhanced vessels. The wider beam of Santa Maria accommodates future upgrades in weaponry, navigation, and sensing technology. Presently, the class is undergoing a mid-life update, including a new EU suite.
