Spandau MG08
thingiverse
I decide to design my own Spandau replica after discovering decent 3D prints of this model are hard to come by. This 1:5 scale design is optimized with as few parts as possible, making it a more manageable project. To address concerns about the print's strength due to perforations in the barrel shroud, I incorporate a 3mm carbon fibre tube (or 1/8" brass tube) that runs from the breech block to the muzzle and secures itself with glue during assembly. This tube also serves as a mock barrel, simplifying the printing process compared to creating an intricate barrel design. Interlocking blocks ensure proper alignment of parts when assembling the gun. Since each 3D printer is unique, I don't provide detailed print settings, but the design is straightforward and doesn't involve any complex techniques. The barrel shroud is printed vertically with a brim for improved adhesion, while breech parts are printed upside down with supports enabled to maintain stability. My test print has minor fuzz on the barrel shroud from a normal viewing distance, which may be negligible or even beneficial depending on your machine's performance. Two holes in the breech block allow for easy mounting of M2 screws and brackets for securing the replica.
