I've updated the file to V2 with improved cannons and rear. One of my favourite film designs was created as a personal design challenge over the holidays for testing a new Laser Cutter. The plans are for 2.8mm material, scale up as needed for thicker material. A larger one was made with the same plans in 6mm poplar laserply. The 'Layer' versions have cut and etch lines on separate layers. I've added corrected versions, and I'll add some useful build photos when I glue the next model. Printer Settings: LaserCutter Post-Printing: Gluing Advice Construction is pretty easy, but maybe it's just because I've made a couple of them. If you need more instructions, feel free to message me. Use a good quality fast-drying wood glue. The Head can be a bit tricky, as the edges don't lie flat against each other. Use the etched guide lines on the legs to get the correct angles. Utilize the holes in the joints to line up the connections; a thick needle will help with this. Cover them with the pop-out circles. The Head can be placed at any angle you want using the pop-out section inside the roof. Detail of the inside of the head. Note the scraps used to help wedge the front cannon in place and the removable/rotatable cross socket that receives the neck. Instructions: 1. Build the body box, ensuring the etched sides are aligned as per the photo. You can also glue the roof and neck at this stage. 2. Build the legs; note the etch marks for alignment. 3. Construct the cannon, feet, and side cannons. Note that the left-hand side cannon has been replaced with a larger one. 4. Take your time on this part – build the sides and front first, then the back when the rest is dry. Use an elastic band to keep everything together. I've removed the rear appendage in the V2 version, making it easier to fit. 5. Attach the feet using the hole and etch marks for alignment. 6. Attach the legs and neck to the body and let them dry before finally putting the head in place. How It Was Designed I designed this completely in Inkscape, using a blurry copy of some old blueprints as reference. It was a personal design challenge that I allowed myself only three prototype cuts on during my holidays. If I had more time, I would add some framework inside the head to simplify gluing.
