NASA is pushing forward with its Space Launch System, or SLS, a cutting-edge rocket designed to propel astronauts beyond Earth's orbit into the vast expanse of deep space. SLS stands as the world's most powerful rocket, poised to blast off astronauts in the agency's Orion spacecraft on bold missions to an asteroid and ultimately to Mars. The launch vehicle is also opening up new opportunities for a wide range of payloads, including robotic scientific expeditions to destinations like Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars. In 2013, NASA finalized its preliminary design for SLS and shifted into high gear with production of the launch vehicle. Today, engineers are making rapid strides toward delivering the first SLS rocket to NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, where it will roar to life on its inaugural launch.
