NASA is developing the Space Launch System (SLS), a cutting-edge launch vehicle designed to propel astronauts beyond Earth's orbit into deep space. SLS will power missions to an asteroid and eventually Mars, while opening doors for robotic scientific expeditions to other planets and moons in our solar system. In 2015, NASA finalized the Critical Design Review of the SLS vehicle, securing agency leadership approval to proceed with production of flight hardware. Engineers at Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama are working alongside over 800 contract companies from across 45 states to achieve a 2018 delivery deadline for the first SLS rocket to NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Engineers at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama are making rapid progress on delivering the first SLS rocket.
