Space Frame Pendant Light

Space Frame Pendant Light

I call this Lunar Lander a fitting name, given its obvious lunar-inspired design. This pendant light is built around hubs that enable the creation of space frames, showcasing innovative 3D printed parts. The hubs themselves are twist rhombic dodecahedra, while other 3D printed components include a flange for holding cardboard triangles in place and a jig for centering holes in wooden discs. A ball-shaped component is used as the bottom strut, adding to the light's structural integrity. The holes within the dodecahedra are precision-cut to accommodate 3/16" dowels, which play a crucial role in assembling the space frame. As you assemble this intricate design, be aware that the resulting structure becomes extremely rigid, making it challenging to bend dowels and insert new struts between hubs. The light socket is securely attached to a triangular piece of 1/4" wood, which connects seamlessly to three center struts. The wooden discs required for this project are readily available from Casey's Wood, an online retailer that specializes in wooden components. To complete the pendant light, you'll also need cord and socket hardware, which can be sourced from Amazon through a specific product link.
