Soyuz TMA Rocket - MakerEd Project
thingiverse
This is a replica of the Soyuz TMA Rocket. The rocket that takes cosmonauts and astronauts to space is currently using the Soyuz. It carries people to the International Space Station (ISS). The model uses relatively basic shapes and functions. To find out more about this project, keep reading in the sections below. How I Designed This References Before designing this model, I wanted a small database of pictures based on the real rocket itself. Most of these images were found on Google and other sites like spacelaunchreport.com/soyuz.html. Software Used Once I had found the images, I started the creation process. I wanted the model to look realistic and use simple shapes and functions. With this in mind, I used 123D Design (http://www.123dapp.com/design) for the bulk of the project, along with Tinkercad (https://www.tinkercad.com). In 123D, I created the main rocket structure and fuselage using the loft feature and extrude feature. I made sure each section was its own entity so when exporting it into Tinkercad, I could color it. In 123D Design, I used scale, merge, and sketch tools. As stated earlier, after completing the main model in 123D, I exported it to Tinkercad to use some of its shapes for the first-stage rocket boosters. Custom Section Project: Soyuz TMA Rocket Objectives: Create a Soyuz Rocket replica Use multiple functions from Tinkercad and 123D Design Utilize several programs to create the model Audiences: Anyone interested in space, rockets, technology, and 3D! Anyone looking to learn basic 3D Design tools Preparation: Compile a folder of reference images Break down design process into multiple steps/goals Learn about specific functions used in the model/project (i.e. loft, extrude, fill) Step 1: Find images or models of the vehicle and create a folder for reference during design. Step 2: Set goals for the project and choose tools/functions for each aspect. Step 3: Learn unfamiliar functions like loft or pattern. Step 4: Design and color the model. Results: Once finished, you'll have a nice Soyuz TMA Rocket model. More importantly, you'll have learned many useful 3D design functions.
