Technical Notes The 45 mm anti-aircraft gun 21-K was a Soviet design adapted from the 45 mm anti-tank gun M1937 53-K. This was a copy of the German 3.7 cm, 1.5 in weapon designed by Rheinmetall sold to Soviets before Hitler came to power in 1933, enlarged to 45 mm, 1.8 in for increased penetrating power. Used by Soviet Navy to equip nearly all ships from 1934 as primary light anti-aircraft gun. Employed in World War II and during the Cold War as Soviets exported their WWII-era ships to allies.
