Sovereign Class U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-E

This model of the Sovereign Class starship from Star Trek is the famous U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-E. This ship was made famous in Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, and Star Trek: Nemesis, but was also seen briefly in Star Trek: Prodigy. The Sovereign Class was the pinnacle of Starfleet technology near the end of the 24th century. The Sovereign Class is an Assault Cruiser and designed for deep space exploration as well as sector defense. The Sovereign was smaller than its predecessor, the Galaxy Class, but it made up for this by being faster, more maneuverable, and better armed. The Enterprise E was the second ship to launch as a sovereign class after the prototype U.S.S. Sovereign. My model was made in SolidWorks 2020 as a single solid. The design was based mostly off of photos I found of the studio model that was built for filming Star Trek: First Contact. It was interesting that there are actually quite a few inconsistences between the model built and the later digital versions of the ship. For example the digital model used in Star Trek: Insurrection, and Star Trek: First Contact has phaser strips on the nacelle pylons while the studio model from First Contact doesn’t. Because First Contact is my favorite Star Trek movie I always deferred to the studio model when I encountered on of these discrepancies. The only exception is Captain’s Yacht on the ventral side of the saucer section. I modeled this as close to the “Cousteau,” seen in Star Trek: Insurrection, because I thought that was a really cool feature. Maybe someday I’ll go back and model the Cousteau properly so it can dock with the Enterprise. All-in-all this model was a blast to make, and certainly one of the more challenging builds I’ve done. It’s not perfect by any means, but I was really happy with the end result. The Sovereign Class is by far my favorite version of the Enterprise and a true joy to recreate. I hope y’all enjoy.
