The South polar skua, Catharacta maccormicki (Saunders, 1893), is one of Antarctica's most widespread and common bird species. It is a monogamous bird that typically lays two large pale-green mottled eggs between November and December. This egg was found abandoned and frozen at Prior Island in 2015 by Diego Fontaneto of CNR-IRSA, who collected it. The egg is now part of the Italian National Antarctic Museum's collections (https://steu.shinyapps.io/MNA-generale/) with voucher number MNA 12146. More information about South polar skua ecology can be found at http://www.nzbirdsonline.org.nz/species/south-polar-skua. Sara Morán Camacho, an Erasmus student from Universidad de Cádiz – UCA, took pictures for the model while working at the Italian National Antarctic Museum in October 2019.
