This replacement part is specifically designed for a South bend lathe model 9C that I recently acquired. The original part had worn out, so I created a new one using ABS PLA material, which may prove to be stronger. To fabricate the component, I divided it into two halves and bonded them together with ABS juice. The South bend lathe in question features a 3/4 inch 8 TPI acme leadscrew, while the chaser gear boasts 32 teeth. Additional parts for this same lathe are currently in production, including change gears, cross slide nut, top slide handle, and any other components that may be missing or damaged. My South bend lathe was manufactured between 1937 and 1940. For those interested in attempting to print the part as a single unit, brian_groves has successfully modified the design to accommodate this process. Next, an 8mm drill was used to create a hole through the assembly, followed by an 8mm expanding reamer. For mounting purposes, I employed 8mm rod, although 5/16 inch rod may also be utilized. The mounting hole has been designed to match the specifications of the SB9C lathe, at 3/8 inches in diameter. Grub screws with a diameter of 5mm are recommended for securing the component in place.
