This is a replacement part for a South Bend lathe model 9C that I recently acquired, the original part was severely worn out so I created a brand-new one out of ABS PLA which may prove to be even stronger. I designed it as a single piece model and printed it in the orientation specified in the STL file. It works just like new, with a smooth and firm feel and absolutely no backlash at all. I'll be offering other replacement parts for this same lathe, including change gears, cross slide nuts, top slide handles, plus any additional components I need to replace because they're missing or worn out. My South Bend lathe was manufactured between 1937 and 1940. Thread specifications are 7/16 inch with a 10 TPI ACME thread. Print settings used were: * Printer: ORDBOT HADRON MODIFIED FLASHFORGE * Supports: Yes * Resolution: 0.1mm * Infill: 100% Post-printing, I cleaned and fitted the part as follows: I drilled and tapped the grub screw hole later on, and also the locking pin hole. To clean out the thread in the nut, I cut a couple of grooves at the end of the screw to use as a tap. Once you get the screw started, work it in and out about half a turn each time until it's all the way through. Then apply a drop of oil to the thread and drive the screw back and forth over its length using a battery drill. The screw will become warm and help form the threads to the screw. You'll find areas that are tight and loose due to uneven wear, so you need to judge for yourself how hard you want it to turn and how much backlash you're willing to put up with. I'm extremely happy with my part, it's good as new! You may find that you need to shim behind the dial as there will be slack in that area too.
