Don't break a gear tooth when removing a stuck chuck, use this gear lock to lock the spindle! The narrow gear cover must be removed from the lathe. The Spindle Lock must be slid in from the gear face. With minimal pressure, the lock will slip in place. The gear is then rotated allowing the block to wedge in place.
