Soprano pflute (older version)
thingiverse
A flute crafted with a recorder-like fingering system is presented in this project. Made from hard material, it was milled out of wood in several pieces and glued together. The files lower.stl and upper.stl are designed for milling 12mm thick wood on a Roland MDX-20. It requires a cork stopper with a diameter of 11.2mm and length of 14mm to play. This flute is not typical, as it has more complicated fingering similar to a recorder. The instrument can play most recorder music and is suitable for those who play in the Society for Creative Anachronism. The source code used to design this wind instrument is available at https://code.launchpad.net/~paul-francis-harrison/+junk/design-instrument, but it's still a work in progress. The previous version of the code and notes from a talk on medieval and renaissance instruments can be found at http://www.logarithmic.net/pfh/design. If you have a specific wind instrument in mind that you want to make, feel free to discuss with the designer for possible custom designs.
