Soporte de Botija No.4 - Hacienda La Ventilla
sketchfab
This fragment is from a ceramic botija support, retrieved from the archaeological site Hacienda La Ventilla, which served as an 18th-century annex to the colonial Jesuit vineyard Hacienda San Joseph de la Nasca in Nasca, Peru. Ceramic supports were circular vessels created on potters' wheels for placing wine jars or aguardiente bottles upright. This particular support was crafted by a West African potter who was enslaved and the thumb prints at its base are characteristic of several regional ceramic traditions from Africa's western coast.
