Sony Record Player Lid Hinge

This is a custom design for a dust cover hinge, specifically tailored for Sony record players. The weak point in typical designs tends to be where the spring is mounted within the hinge itself. I intentionally broke down the design into separate components so that the filament can be printed in the most optimal direction possible. A different approach I came across featured a vulnerable seam in the print, regardless of how it was oriented. In contrast, my design ensures that all seams are aligned for maximum strength and durability, making it less prone to breakage. Given that I work with ABS plastic, I used acetone to bond the parts together and then subjected them to a controlled vapor bath to further enhance their structural integrity. I will be sharing photos of the completed design at a later time. In my haste, I decided to use heat to speed up the acetone-soaking process, but this led to an unexpected outcome - the part expanded like a balloon! This experience serves as a valuable lesson: patience is essential when working with delicate materials and processes.
