Sony MDR-XB950BT Headphones replacement hinges
thingiverse
These are replacement hinges designed specifically for Sony MDR-XB950BT Headphones. After using my headphones daily for five years, the plastic began to deteriorate rapidly, becoming brittle and breaking off in as little as one week. The left hinge shattered into three pieces, while the right hinge snapped into two parts. This catastrophic failure happened within a single week of continuous use - I call this "planned obsolescence" at its finest. Determined to extend the lifespan of my headphones, I designed these replacement hinges: 1. No soldering is required, but you will need to carefully free the cable using sharp side cutter pliers. Alternatively, you can unsolder the cable and gently pull it from the broken hinge. 2. To access the old hinge, you'll need to disassemble both left and right speakers by removing the screws that hold them together, as the hinges are securely fixed within the housing. 3. Mounting the new hinges is straightforward - simply slide them into place on the headphones' base, where they will secure tightly without requiring any additional fastening. 4. Since I only use my headphones at home, I've opted to skip the side-rotation mechanism, which had also failed on one of the sides. 5. Please note that there are separate Left and Right models available, as the design takes into account the cable opening. These hinges were printed using PLA with 100% fill.
