Sony HDR AS* case
thingiverse
This protective case/mount fits the older Sony HDR AS series of action cameras with several accessory mounts built-in.\r\n\r\nI took inspiration from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2669589 but wanted to make some changes. Since working with meshes can be tricky, I created a new design for the case from scratch.\r\n\r\nThe case features a 1/4x20 nut on top that allows standard tripod mounts to attach easily. A cold-shoe adapter is also built-in for a Manfrotto LED light; other lights may require an additional adapter, however.\r\n\r\nI've designed another version with a cheap laser pointer cat toy attachment on the side to aid in camera aiming, as these cameras lack displays. It's not the most elegant solution, but it helps frame shots effectively.\r\n\r\nTo address feedback, I added two new versions (v17) that incorporate traditional cold shoe mounts and chamfers, eliminating the need for supports.\r\n\r\nThe camera fits snugly in place with a small lip to secure it at the back. The area around the lens is extended to provide full protection if the camera is dropped on a flat surface. Openings are provided for the LCD screen, side buttons, and charging port, allowing the camera to be functional and chargeable without removal.\r\n\r\nOne test involved dropping my camera from chest height onto a hard floor using drthomp's case; while the case cracked, the camera remained unharmed.
