Sonoff Basic Speedo Case
thingiverse
This is a case for the Sonoff Basic Wifi switch designed to fit snugly into an in-wall space, much like a Speedo fits tightly on its wearer. Proceed with caution, as this modification may or may not be safe or legal - it's up to you to decide. Wrapping the device in electrical tape, as one YouTube video demonstrated, is certainly less secure. There are two versions of this switch housing: thin and standard. I opt for the standard version, which boasts a rigid design that provides excellent protection for the board while installed. The scad file includes a variable for thickness, allowing you to tweak it if desired. The thin variant requires flexible material to accommodate its unique wrapping mechanism around the PCB, holding it securely in place. Securing this top piece is akin to attempting to put on a Speedo - challenging, to say the least! I printed mine using TPU and found it worked reasonably well, but ultimately chose the Sonoff's protection over the minor thickness savings offered by the thin design. The thin version consists of merely two layers, so precise printer settings are crucial for success. I had no idea there were already numerous in-wall solutions available online until I started researching. This approach maintains a seamless appearance, identical to the original light switch, but significantly alters the Sonoff's configuration. My first installation went unnoticed by everyone in the household - a testament to this clever solution!
