Solstice Star Tree Topper

Solstice Star Tree Topper

"Hang a shining star upon the highest bough..." My family's holiday tradition didn't include a traditional star or angel for our Christmas/Solstice tree, so I created one in TinkerCAD! The design consists of three shapes: pyramid-shaped points with decorative sides to be printed five times, a hexagonal base featuring a star and clip for attachment to the top branch. After printing each piece, it's a good idea to sand down the sides of the points for smoothness, but make sure to flatten and smooth the bottoms so they stick better when assembled. Assembling is a breeze with CA glue (also known as super glue). Attach the clip last. The hexagonal base has a hole in the back for inserting LED Christmas lights if desired; it's easier to get them all the way into each point if you insert them before gluing. Our finished star measures 5.5 inches across on its wingspan from tip to tip, but feel free to scale it up in TinkerCAD or your slicer if your tree needs a bigger star.
