Solidworks Tutorial of Shear Force and Bending Moment Diagram of All Beams - Point Load, UDL and UVL Mechanical engineering courses/ subjects strength of materials and engineering mechanics Types of beams: There are 5 most important types of beams. They are Simple supported beam, Cantilever beam, Continuous beam, Beam on two supports, Beam with two equal spans. Simple supported beam: A beam that is freely supported or resting at both ends is known as a simply supported beam. It has no moments at the supports but it does have shearing forces. Cantilever beam: A beam fixed at one end and free at the other end is known as a cantilever beam. A cantilever beam experiences a moment at its fixed end due to any external load applied at its free end. Types of loading: There are 3 most important types of loading: Concentrated or point load, Uniformly distributed load, Uniformly varying load. Concentrated or point load: A concentrated load is one that acts at a single point. In the following example in a cantilever beam, a load F acts at a single point. Uniformly distributed load: A uniformly distributed load is spread over a beam so that the rate of loading is uniform along its length. This type of loading usually refers to the self-weight of the beam. Uniformly varying load: A uniformly varying load is spread over a beam so that the rate of loading varies from point to point along the beam.
