SolidWorks Exercise #5 Create a new part document and design a mechanical component that consists of two separate parts. The first part will be a gear with 10 teeth, while the second part will be a shaft that fits snugly inside the gear. 1. Create a new sketch on the top plane by clicking "Sketch" in the toolbar or using the hotkey Ctrl+K. Draw an arc with a radius of 5 inches and two lines extending from each end of the arc, making sure they intersect at their endpoints. 2. Use the Extrude function to extrude the selected lines into a solid gear body. In the "Extrusions" dialog box, select the "Up to Surface" option and choose the top plane as the surface. 3. Create another new sketch on the front plane by clicking "Sketch" in the toolbar or using the hotkey Ctrl+K. Draw an arc with a radius of 2 inches and two lines extending from each end of the arc, making sure they intersect at their endpoints. 4. Use the Extrude function to extrude the selected lines into a solid shaft body. In the "Extrusions" dialog box, select the "Up to Surface" option and choose the front plane as the surface. 5. Combine the gear and shaft bodies into a single part document by clicking on the "Combine" button in the toolbar or using the hotkey Ctrl+J. 6. Use the "Mate" function to constrain the gear and shaft bodies together. In the "Mates" dialog box, select the "Coincidence" option and choose the top plane as the reference. 7. Finally, use the "Assembly" function to create an assembly document that contains both the gear and shaft parts. Click on the "Assembly" button in the toolbar or use the hotkey Ctrl+A. The completed assembly should resemble a basic mechanical system consisting of a gear and a shaft.
