Solidoodle Replacement Carriages
thingiverse
Printable x and y carriages for Solidoodle printers use LM8UU bearings (x8) that clip on for convenience and easy assembly/disassembly. These carriages ensure smooth gliding without lube and offer adjustment for x-axis belt tension, maintaining original axis travel while providing more room for extruder fans. They are highly recommended to print as a spare at least. The design should work for Solidoodle 2 and 3 with longer x-axis smooth rods. UPDATE: New designs include cutouts for M3 nut traps on both belt attachment points, as well as the extruder attachment, totaling eight needed. UPDATE 2 includes slight tweaks for strength, with new parts labeled with _2 suffix. Instructions: Follow the attached exploded view with color-coding. Most parts are recycled, with only 8x LM8UU linear bearings and possibly additional M3 bolts needed for belt tensioning. Extruder and y-axis belts disassembly and reassembly is required, followed by attaching the five printed parts to the y-axis smooth rods and securing them with hose clamps. The x-axis stepper motor assembly is attached to the new carriages, followed by attaching the smooth x-axis rods (either recycled or new) and securing them with M3 screws. The center front, center rear, and center top pieces are then clipped down onto the x-axis bearings, eliminating play in the assembly. Finally, secure the top piece to the front and rear pieces with M3 bolts. Attach both y-axis belts in a similar manner, ensuring proper tension for smooth movement. Reattach the extruder, extruder stepper, and power up the printer for optimal performance. Even without lubing the smooth rods, prints should come out nicely rounded. Dimensions are in mm, and happy printing!
